A Cunning Man

"FASHION IS THE ARMOUR TO SURVIVE THE REALITY OF EVERYDAY LIFE"

Thanks to our lovely friend Jillian Bagan, I was able to escort her to the exclusive pre-screening of the film  Bill Cunningham New York,  a film by Richard Press. I was going into this film excited after seeing the trailer for it-and it certainly did not disappoint.

Bill Cunningham

It follows and chronicles the daily workings of this true artist, talking about his past and his perceptions of the fashion industry and his beloved New York. The film itself is quite beautiful with wit and humour in the perfect places. Bill Cunningham is indeed a legend, probably the most sincere and simplest man in the industry today.  This film is a love letter to him, getting you emotional when he talks about his work, religion, and (lack of, some would say) personal life. Working for New York Times as a photographer with his own street style section, he is simply the true father of street fashion photography.

I'm sorry Scott Schuman, you've just been bumped to second place.  How can you compete with this?

I can't even put to words how much respect I have for this man. Its unbelievable how he has lived - only doing things because he loves doing them, not caring what other people think. If we can all strive to be somewhat like him we would all be better off. In the film he speaks about not accepting his cheques simply because "if you dont take money, they can't tell you what to do." Amazing, isn't he?

Below is the trailer for his new movie and his work:

Watch this film. I promise you will be inspired and impressed by his genuine warmth and smart responses.
Bill Cunningham, my new hero.
