Under the Influence #12 > Portraits

This theme immediately reminds me of my partner at large Mr. Marlon – King of portrait photography. Maybe this shall inspire him… >

Under the Influence #10 > Vintage Vogue Pattern Catalogues

A few months ago I scanned almost every page of about eight or nine vogue pattern catalogues that I borrowed from my boyfriend’s mum. Ranging from the late 1970’s to early 1980’s, the editorials in these catalogues were made to inspire women of the time to get out their sewing machines create the looks for themselves. Thirty years later – it makes me want to do the same thing! Below are the favourites >

POMP by Jessica Matthew – New Arrivals at Dream Apparel

It’s the last of the Summer line for 2011! The new items were dropped off in store on Monday and include a high-waist skirt with pockets (pictured below), as well as styles from the previous delivery in new colour options.

Big thanks for the huge response to Pomp’s launch into local retail – a couple of the styles from three weeks ago have already sold out. Awesome stuff! Pics of the new items below >>

Brian Ferry for Starbucks

I came across this campaign through newly discovered mega-cool website Free / Man (its Vancouver connection makes it even cooler). In celebration of 40 years in business, Starbucks commissioned photographers Brian Ferry and Stephanie Congdon Barnes to take on this new hipster-happy image series that’s been running in print in the US recently.

On an artistic level - I love the cropped detail and soft, natural lighting. On an advertising and marketing level – It seems that Starbucks is slowly shifting away from it’s associations with tiny tiny celebrities carrying around venti venti take-out mugs and trying harder to persuade every-day people that they are just like the quaint and bohemian coffee shop in your local ‘hood and not in-fact one of the biggest super brands in the world.

Either way – I’m not ashamed to admit I am a Starbucks fan, and this campaign doesn’t change that. Favourite shots are below >

Full series can be found on Brian Ferry’s website.
